Youth Access & Participation Policy
YMCA Fitness Queensland is committed to providing safe, inclusive, and age-appropriate fitness and recreation opportunities for young people. Age-based access rules and supervision requirements are applied to protect the wellbeing of youth members and comply with industry safety standards.
13 Years of Age or Younger
Allowed:
- Swimming only
Restrictions:
- No gym floor access.
- No group fitness classes.
- No weight-bearing fitness activities.
Pre-Requirements:
- Parent/guardian to sign all paperwork.
- Adherence to Royal Life Saving Australia Keep Watch Program.
- Parent/guardian must sign Youth Access and Participation Policy Acknowledgement & Consent Form.
Controls:
- No fitness membership offering for young people under 14 years.
- Proof of age required for any young person seeking to join the gym.
- Mmbership agreement to be signed by parent.
14–15 Years of Age
Allowed:
- Take part in group fitness classes with parent/guardian supervision (must be a member).
- Use Cardiovascular and pin weight equipment only as per a personalised program prescribed by a YMCA trainer; approved YMCA Contractor or approved licensed provider (ie. Exercise physiologist, physio etc) with parent/guardian supervision (must be a member).
- Take part in water-based classes with parent/guardian supervision (must be a member).
Restrictions:
- No free weights.
- No 24/7 access.
- No casual use without full parent/guardian supervision.
Pre-Requirements:
- Parent/guardian to sign all membership agreements and health screen questionnaire.
- Parent/guardian supervision while attending.
- Adherence to Royal Life Saving Australia Keep Watch Program.
- Completion of personalised program and induction prescribed and led by a YMCA trainer; approved YMCA Contractor or approved licensed provider (ie. Exercise physiologist, physio etc) with parent/guardian present (must be a member).
- Parent/guardian must sign Youth Access and Participation Policy Acknowledgement & Consent Form.
Controls:
- Parent/guardian (must be a member) supervision during each training session.
- Parent/guardian (must be a member) must sign in with the young person and actively supervise training session to ensure adherence to prescribed fitness program.
- Completion of personalised program and induction prescribed and led by a YMCA trainer; approved YMCA Contractor or approved licensed provider (ie. Exercise physiologist, physio etc)
16 Years of Age
Allowed:
- Full facility access during staffed hours.
Restrictions:
- No 24/7 access.
Pre-Requirements:
- Able to sign, in the presence of their parent/guardian all membership agreement and health screen questionnaire forms.
- Parent/guardian must co-sign Youth Access and Participation Policy Acknowledgement & Consent Form.
- Completion of personalised program and induction prescribed and led by a YMCA trainer; approved YMCA Contractor or approved licensed provider (ie. Exercise physiologist, physio etc)
Controls:
- Prescribed fitness program to follow age-appropriate industry best practice
17 Years of Age
Allowed:
- Full facility access during staffed hours.
- Eligible for own full membership.
Restrictions:
- No 24/7 access.
Pre-Requirements:
- Can sign own membership forms.
Controls:
- Proof of age required for any young person seeking to join the gym.
- Program and induction available to all new members.
