Small Steps for Big Changes

Free Diabetes Prevention Program

A free six-week program to help local residents lower their risk of type 2 diabetes.

The Y has partnered with The University of Queensland to deliver Small Steps for Big Changes — a free six-week program designed to help community members build healthier, more active lifestyles.

With rates of type 2 diabetes continuing to rise across Australia, the program offers a practical, supportive pathway for people who want to make sustainable improvements to their wellbeing. Rather than overwhelming participants with drastic changes, Small Steps for Big Changes focuses on achievable daily habits – moving more, eating better, and building confidence along the way.

Expert support, tailored to you

Participants receive personalised health coaching from qualified, experienced trainers, who guide them through:

  • Realistic goal-setting
  • Tailored activity plans
  • Simple nutrition strategies

This one-on-one support ensures every person's journey is shaped around their needs, preferences, and starting point.
