YMCA Cancer Survivors Program

YMCA Cancer Survivors is a 12 Week physical activity and support program for cancer survivors. A cancer survivor is any person diagnosed with cancer, and includes people living with, through and beyond the disease.

At no cost to the survivor, the YMCA provides a safe exercise program and environment for cancer survivors to gain and reclaim their health and well-being. Perhaps just as important as the physical aspect of the program, participants get the chance to connect with likeminded people on a similar journey. Survivors who have gone through the program, describes the support, empathy and understanding gained through being part of a group as priceless and like nothing they've ever experienced elsewhere.

YMCA Cancer Survivors focuses on the whole person, not the disease. Instructors also help participants develop their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle. YMCA instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care.

Lungs in Action

Lungs in Action is Lung Foundation Australia’s community based maintenance exercise program at YMCA Bowen Hills for people with stable chronic lung conditions who have completed a pulmonary rehabilitation. It is also suitable for people with stable NYHA class II & III heart failure who have completed heart failure rehabilitation.

All Lungs in Action classes are run by exercise professionals who have been specially trained in exercising people with chronic lung conditions and heart failure.

Lungs in Action classes are suitable for people using supplemental oxygen and/or walking frames. And there are seated options for all exercises if required.

Class formats may vary between instructors and equipment availability, however all classes will follow the guidelines set by Lung Foundation Australia’s Lungs in Action training.
